Services: Frequently Asked Questions

Can I get a trained Hearing Dog from Martha?

Private training is available for your own dog, or you and I can select a dog for training. If you live nearby, I can coach you weekly with your dog, or I can board and train the dog at my home.

How long does it take to train my own Hearing Dog?

Depending on the dogs temperament and prior training, it could be from 6 months to two years. Raising a puppy of course takes time. The pup needs a good foundation, good genetics, and it needs to show good temperament as it grows up. Not all puppies will complete training. Puppies are hard to evaluate, since they change as they reach adulthood. Behaviors like fearfulness, territorial aggression, and other issues may show up around 15 to 24 months.

My trainer is great but doesn’t know about training Hearing Dogs.

Your trainer can contact me. I can help find resources in your area to help you and your trainer.

Can I get pet training?

Pet training is available in the San Francisco Bay Area. On and off leash obedience, house behavior, aggression or fearfulness issues. Puppy, adult, or behavior issues. I am also experienced in geriatric dog issues, and can work together with your veterinarian to figure out what issues are medical and which are behavioral. Consults at your home or a meeting place are $150 per hour. After the initial consultation, lesson packages of four one-hour lessons are $390.

Can I get boarding?

Boarding at my home is available at $40 per day. I do not have kennels. Dogs live in my house and my yards are secure and safe.

Boarding combined with training is $80 per day. When your dog goes home, you get two one-hour lessons at no charge so that you can be successful in keeping up your dogs new good habits.
